Gold and silver prices rebounded Thursday, their first increases in four sessions. Gold prices for June delivery added $9.10, or 0.6%, to $1,557.50 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange. Gold prices on the day traded between $1,551 an ounce and $1,577.70 an ounce.
"Gold had a pretty good short-covering rally today but it was extremely volatile because it followed whatever news that were coming out of Europe on Greece," said George Gero, vice-president at RBC Capital Markets Global Futures in New York.
In other New York futures, July silver prices added 64 cents, or 2.3%, to $28.16 an ounce, June palladium prices declined $3.60, or 0.6%, to $587.50 an ounce and July platinum prices added $8.30, or 0.6%, to $1,422.40 an ounce.

Sales of the United States Mint bullion coins advanced Thursday. Rising were the popular 1 oz. coins, with the American Gold Eagle up 4,000; the American Gold Buffalo gaining 1,000; and the American Silver Eagle up 160,000.
