Gold Marks Sixth-Straight Session Gains, Silver Prices Rise Nearly 1%

by Bullion Prices Staff on June 21, 2011

U.S. bullion prices moved higher Tuesday. August gold prices advanced $4.40, or 0.3%, to $1,546.40 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange. Gold hit an intraday low of $1,539.30 an ounce and reached a high of $1,549.00 an ounce. Gains were attributed to a falling greenback and continued concerns over Greece debt issues.

"Gold may continue to be the beneficiary of events in Greece, where uncertainty will continue to dominate," Tom Pawlicki, an analyst at MF Global Holdings Ltd. in Chicago, was quoted on Bloomberg.

In other bullion futures prices, July silver added 30.8 cents, or 0.9% to $36.38 an ounce, September palladium advanced $19.05, or 2.5% to $767.25 an ounce, and July platinum added $16.70, or 1.0% to $1,747.20 an ounce.
