Gold Prices Edge Up, Silver Gains, US Mint Bullion Coins Unchanged

by Bullion Prices Staff on March 21, 2012

U.S. gold prices on Wednesday rebounded slightly from Tuesday’s $20.30 loss. April gold futures climbed $3.30, or 0.2%, to settle at $1,650.30 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange. Gold prices traded from an intraday low of $1,646.30 an ounce to a high of $1,661.90 an ounce.

"Comex gold futures prices ended the U.S. day session modestly higher Wednesday, on a corrective, short-covering bounce from Tuesday’s selling pressure. Some tepid bargain hunting buying interest was also featured," writes Jim Wyckoff of Kitco News.

"Crude oil prices traded modestly higher, too, which was a slight positive for today’s price action in gold and silver," added Wyckoff.

As for silver, May silver futures prices added 39.3 cents, or 1.2%, to $32.23 an ounce. The white metal tumbled $1.21 during the previous session.

PGM metals diverged from silver and gold prices. June palladium futures prices declined $8.40, or 1.2%, to $688.65 an ounce while April platinum futures prices declined $13.90, or 0.8%, to $1,640.40 an ounce.
