Gold, Silver Prices Drop; Bullion Coins Climb

by Bullion Prices Staff on September 14, 2011

U.S. gold prices declined modestly after concerns abated, somewhat, on European nation debt as talk of support from China emerged. The December gold futures contract fell $3.60, or 0.2%, to $1,826.50 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange. Gold traded from $1,813.30 to $1,848.20 an ounce.

"Europe is trying to find ways to ward off the crisis," Tom Pawlicki, a Chicago-based analyst at MF Global Holdings Ltd., said in a telephone interview that was relayed on Bloomberg. "The dollar being slightly up is also acting against gold."

In other New York futures, December silver prices fell 66 cents, or 1.6%, to $40.53 an ounce, December palladium dropped $7.50, or 1%, to $721 an ounce and October platinum added $2.40, or 0.1%, to $1,815.90 an ounce.
