Gold, Silver Prices Edge Up, Bullion American Eagles Unchanged

by Bullion Prices Staff on April 19, 2012

With the exception of a 0.1% loss for platinum on Thursday, precious metals advanced. Increases included 0.1% for gold and 0.9% for both silver and palladium.

June gold prices added $1.80 to settle at $1,641.40 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange. Gold traded between an intraday low of $1,631.20 an ounce and a high of $1,654.90 an ounce.

"Comex gold futures prices ended the U.S. day session slightly higher in more two-sided trading. The near-term technical postures of the gold and silver markets remain tilted in favor of the bears, and that is limiting the upside for both metals," wrote Jim Wyckoff of Kitco Metals.

In other New York futures, May silver prices rose 29.2 cents to $31.78 an ounce, June palladium prices gained $6.05 to $663.30 an ounce and July platinum prices declined $1.20 to $1,578 an ounce.
