Gold Prices Fall, US Bullion Coins Inch Higher

Gold futures registered a second straight week of declines, off 3.2%, and silver logged a third weekly decline, off 2.3%. Demand for United States Mint bullion coins did rise modestly from a week ago.

Gold Prices Off First Week in Three, 5 oz Silver Bullion Coins Gain

Bullion prices split Friday and settled lower than a week ago. The weekly losses ranged from 0.4% for silver to 4.1% for palladium. Gold and platinum were in the middle with matching losses of 2.2%. For gold, it was its first weekly decline in three.

Gold Prices Up on Week, Silver Down, US Bullion Coins Stronger

Bullion prices ended higher Friday although that did not help silver and platinum log weekly gains since silver declined 0.4% from a week ago and platinum lost 0.9%. Gold and palladium did rise on the week with respective increases of 0.5% and 1.4%.

Bullion Prices Mixed in First Week of Sept, US Coin Sales Soften

Bullion prices advanced as a group Friday but were mixed in the first week of September with all but silver lower. Gold prices for December delivery on Friday gained $13.50, or 1%, to settle at $1,386.50 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange.

Bullion prices were mostly higher in August with all but palladium scoring gains. In monthly breakdowns for precious metals futures in New York, advancing was gold by 6.3%, silver by 19.8% and platinum by 6.8%. Palladium slipped 0.3%.

Gold and silver prices notched strong weekly gains — the third in a row for gold and the fifth for silver. Pick-ups this week for each accumulated to 1.8%. Gold prices would have ended near flat this week until Friday as prices surged by the 1.8%.

Bullion Prices Soar on Week, US Silver Coins Moving

Bullion prices rallied this week, led by silver which scored a 14.3% weekly increase and scored a fourth week of consecutive gains. Gold shot ahead 4.5% and finished at its highest price since June 19. In rounding out the metals on a weekly basis, palladium advanced 3% and platinum gained 1.8%.
